In most cases, 36" is the code-required height for residential applications. However, some jurisdictions such as the state of California and some counties in Florida require 42". If you are unsure of what you need, please contact your local building department.
Enter each run of the railing. "Run" is any straight section of railing in plan (bird's eye) view, including stairs. Typically you can use dimensions measured along the deck/floor edge. For stairs, measure from bottom nosing to top nosing.

Railing height for stairs in residential applications must be between 34" and 38". Therefore, you will receive 36" Cascadia posts for your stairs. When installed according to the manufacturer's installation instructions, the railing height will meet the requirements.
